27 Years Bushirah Atunwa, Qualified For Makinde’s Cabinet

While a vast section of the population is eligible to run for political office, just a very few people actively involve themselves in politics. And among those who do, women are represented by just a tiny fraction. Over time, several factors including money, time, self-confidence, marginalisation, etc. make it difficult for women to run a political office.

However, with the increasing numbers of women that are being considered for political positions and or appointments in Oyo State, it is clear that the status quo is being discontinued. Especially with the effort of organisations and the ruling class such as Governor Seyi Makinde who is doing much to recognise, canvass, inspire, equip, and support women’s inclusion in the business of politics and governance.

Reeling from the state of things, Governor Seyi Makinde has already set up his cabinet for the second term administration but has not nominated names for Commissioners for the ministries of Health and Youth and Sports. However, based on the analysis of the list being considered by the Oyo Governor for the Youth and Sports Ministry, Atunwa Bushirah Omolara rings a bell. She is 27 years old; the youngest on the list.

Atunwa Bushirah is from Ibarapa East Local Government of Oyo State. She is the daughter of popular Eruwa politician Alhaji Atunwa, who was a former Secretary of the PDP and, subsequently became Chairman, Ward 6, Ibarapa East LG.

Bushirah studied Microbiology at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin; she holds Master’s degrees in Environmental Biology and Public Health from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Akure.

She was Ambassador, UNICEF hand washing project in 2009; the overall best-graduating student in Oyo State in 2012; and One-day Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government in 2012.

She is certified by the Information Technology- British Computer Society, Business intelligence and data analytics, Google Digital Skills for Africa, Financial Modelling, and valuation analytics. Currently, she is completing a course on Google Project Management.

Busirah who is the pioneer initiator of Intensive Awareness on Teenage Pregnancy has worked with a few private companies and will make a great addition to the cabinet of Governor Seyi Makinde.
