The local government election in Ibarapa East, Oyo State on Saturday turned bloody as thugs believed to be working for one of the political parties hijacked the election.
No fewer than 2 persons were killed during the violence that erupted in Eruwa, Ibarapa East.
According to an eye witness who pleaded anonymity with Naija Banquet, thugs suspected to be working for a prominent politician and some aggrieved members of PDP in Lanlate came to steal ballot box at New Eruwa.
“There was no election in Maya, they disrupted election in ward 9 and stole ballot box in New Eruwa. So, when they returned to New Eruwa the second time, rival thugs overpowered them, beat them mercilessly, seized the ballot box and burnt it at Obadara, Eruwa.

“The commissioner of Police even came from Ibadan to douse the tension. When she left, the tension rose again that they started blocking main roads and stopped vehicles from passing.

“It was in the midst of these that some custom officers approached them. They pleaded with them, but the thugs won’t allow them to pass. So they opened fire and killed one woman and another man who was standing on his own.”
