Few days ago, the Federal Government of Nigeria put a ban on the micro blogging site, Twitter, over the deletion of President Muhammad Buhari’s tweet on civil war. However, the Federal Government has outlined that the lifting of its indefinite ban of Twitter in Nigeria is subject to condition.
In a statement from Geoffrey Onyeama, the Foreign Affairs Minister, at his meeting with envoys from UK, US, Canada, and the European Union, he declared that Twitter’s operations in Nigeria would be restored only if the platform complies with national rules and regulations and used responsibly.
In a report from Cable, when Onyeama was asked when the ban will be lifted, he outlined that there is no definite time for the lifting.
He said: “The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that really has to be it. We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing; why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities”.
So pathetic of our leaders! The tweet which was deleted was a genocidal content from the presidency. In a deeper look, isn’t that a criminal threat on its own? They’re trying to paper their own disastrous leadership cracks. Setting our conditions that only the ruled must obey; but , it’s inapplicable to the ruler.
