Human right activist and publisher of the Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has urged Nigerians to continue the struggle of emancipation from the tyranny of the Nigerian government, come what may.

The socio-political activist was reportedly teargassed at the Unity Fountain in Abuja during a protest on Monday.

One his lawyers, Inibehe Effiong narrates the incident,

“Omoyele Sowore has just been shot by a female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. He is being taken to the hospital for treatment. The officer fired a teargas cannister directly at his right thigh. Sowore was specifically targeted.

“The criminal officer is said to be CSP Atine. I watched Sowore being shot live on Facebook. The FCT Police Commissioner has fenced the Unity Fountain with iron and cables to prevent protests;

“This is what Nigeria has been turned into under Buhari. They’ve declared war on the Civic Space;

“This is a criminal offence under the Anti-Torture Act of 2017.”

while reacting to this, Sowore in a tweep admonished Nigerians to continue the struggle even if his life is eventually taken.

“Just been shit by a police officer, ACP Atine at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. #RevolutionNow Let the struggle continue even if they take my life! #BuhariMustGo”

Former Senator Sheu Sani also reacted, saying that the incident is both sad and unfortunate.
