Aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has warned Arewa youths over their plot to avenge Gulak’s murder.
Ahmed Gulak who was an ex-aide to Goodluck Jonathan was killed by unknown gunmen while he was on his way to catch a flight at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri on Sunday, 30th May 2020.
Consequently, some Northern youths under the aegis of the Arewa forum have vowed to avenge the death of Gulak, following the linkage of his death to the ESN/IPOB members by the Nigerian Police.
In his reaction, Reno Omokri warned that making Ahmed’s murder a tribal or regional thing will only add fresh impetus to the glowing embers of war. He, therefore, urged “those Arewa youths saying that they want to avenge his murder should think twice.”
“Ahmed Gulak’s murder is totally condemnable. However, those Arewa youths saying they want to avenge his murder should think twice. Thousands of Southerners have been killed by Boko Haram, bandits and herdsmen. Yet, Southerners condemned those criminals, not all Northerners. Yes, Boko Haram, bandits and herdsmen also kill Northerners. But the same can he said about Unknown Gunmen. They kill more Southerners than Northerners. This is a purely criminal matter. Let’s not make this a tribal or regional thing, lest we become like Rwanda.”
Ondo State Governor, arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu while mourning Gulak also noted that his murder was cleverly calculated to instigate Northerners against Igbo living outside the South East.
Hence, rather than lust after political correctness, “we must confront the enemies of the people with a view to neutralising them.” Governor Akeredolu posits.
